Margherita Pizza
The simplest pizza is often the best: a hot oven, good tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil. No fancy toppings needed.
Ingredients
- 300 g pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 100 g canned San Marzano tomatoes, crushed
- 1 tbsp olive oil, plus more for drizzling
- 200 g fresh mozzarella, torn
- a few leaves fresh basil
- to taste salt
- pinch dried oregano, optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to its highest setting (240–260°C) with a pizza stone or baking sheet inside.
- Stretch or roll the dough into a round on a floured surface.
- Spread crushed tomatoes evenly, leaving a border for the crust. Drizzle with olive oil and a pinch of salt.
- Slide the pizza onto the hot stone or sheet and bake 8–10 minutes until the crust is golden.
- Remove, scatter torn mozzarella over the top, and return to the oven 2–3 minutes until melted.
- Top with fresh basil leaves and a drizzle of olive oil before slicing.
