Margherita Pizza

Margherita Pizza

The simplest pizza is often the best: a hot oven, good tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil. No fancy toppings needed.

Ingredients

  • 300 g pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 100 g canned San Marzano tomatoes, crushed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil, plus more for drizzling
  • 200 g fresh mozzarella, torn
  • a few leaves fresh basil
  • to taste salt
  • pinch dried oregano, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to its highest setting (240–260°C) with a pizza stone or baking sheet inside.
  2. Stretch or roll the dough into a round on a floured surface.
  3. Spread crushed tomatoes evenly, leaving a border for the crust. Drizzle with olive oil and a pinch of salt.
  4. Slide the pizza onto the hot stone or sheet and bake 8–10 minutes until the crust is golden.
  5. Remove, scatter torn mozzarella over the top, and return to the oven 2–3 minutes until melted.
  6. Top with fresh basil leaves and a drizzle of olive oil before slicing.
