Privacy Policy

Last Updated: June 25, 2025

1. Introduction

Foo ("the App") is a personal kitchen organizer for iPhone. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. The short version: Foo is designed to keep your data entirely on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store your personal information on any external server.

By using Foo, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Foo collects virtually no personal information. Specifically:

  • App data (recipes, pantry inventory, food logs, shopping lists) — stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. If you are signed into iCloud on your device, this data is also synced to your private iCloud database via CloudKit so it stays in sync across your Apple devices.
  • Photos — if you choose to attach photos to recipes or food items, those images are stored locally on your device only. We do not upload or sync them anywhere.
  • No account required — Foo does not require you to create an account or provide an email address, name, or any other personal identifier.
  • No analytics — we do not collect usage statistics, crash reports, or behavioral data. There is no analytics SDK in the app.
  • No advertising identifiers — we do not use IDFA or any advertising tracking identifier.

3. How We Use Information

Because we do not collect your personal data, there is nothing for us to use, sell, or share. All data you enter into Foo exists solely on your device and is used by the app to provide its features — recipe management, pantry tracking, and shopping lists.

In-app purchase transactions are handled entirely by Apple. We receive only confirmation that a purchase was made, not any payment details. See Section 5 for more information.

4. Data Storage & Security

Foo stores your data locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. If you are signed into iCloud, Foo also syncs your data across your Apple devices using CloudKit — Apple's cloud sync infrastructure.

Here is what that means in practice:

  • On-device storage — your data is always available locally and protected by iOS's built-in data protection, tied to your device passcode.
  • iCloud sync via CloudKit — when iCloud is enabled, your recipes, pantry, and other app data are stored in your private CloudKit database on Apple's servers. This database is associated with your Apple ID and is accessible only to you and the devices you are signed into. We, the developer, have no ability to read, access, or modify your iCloud data.
  • iCloud Backup — separately, if you have iCloud Backup enabled, your device (including local app data) may be backed up to iCloud. This is controlled by your iOS settings.
  • Disabling sync — you can turn off iCloud sync for Foo at any time in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud → Foo. Your data will remain on-device.
  • App deletion — if you delete Foo, your local data is removed. Your CloudKit data may persist in iCloud until you delete it from your iCloud account settings.

All iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We encourage you to keep your device and iOS up to date for the best security.

5. In-App Purchases & Payments

Foo offers optional Pro features through Apple's App Store, including a monthly subscription and a one-time lifetime purchase. All payment processing is handled exclusively by Apple via the StoreKit framework.

  • We never see, receive, or store your payment card details or billing information.
  • Purchase receipts are validated using Apple's native StoreKit APIs — no payment data is transmitted to our servers (we don't have any).
  • Subscription management and cancellation must be done through iOS Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions, not through the app itself.
  • Refund requests are subject to Apple's refund policy and must be submitted to Apple directly.

For more information on how Apple handles your payment data, see Apple's Privacy Policy.

6. Photos & Camera Access

Foo may request access to your photo library so you can attach images to your recipes and food items. This permission is entirely optional — the app's core functionality works without it.

  • Photos you select or capture are stored locally on your device only.
  • We never upload, transmit, or share your photos.
  • You can revoke photo library access at any time in iOS Settings → Foo.

7. Third-Party Services

Foo uses only Apple's own system frameworks — specifically StoreKit (for in-app purchases) and TipKit (for in-app tips and feature discovery). Neither of these frameworks collects or transmits your personal data.

We do not integrate any of the following:

  • Analytics platforms (e.g., Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude)
  • Crash reporting tools (e.g., Crashlytics, Sentry)
  • Advertising networks
  • Social login providers (e.g., Sign in with Google, Facebook Login)

8. Children's Privacy

Foo does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. Since the app does not collect any personal data from any user, it is designed to be safe for all ages. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to address it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app or applicable laws. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we may also notify you within the app. Continued use of Foo after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
